Was I Flat-Out Wrong About the R63 AMG?

On the cusp of writing about an R63 AMG found on Bring A Trailer, this little gem pops up the very same day on Road & Track. It turns out they believe the rarity of the R63 alone will bring it multi-million dollar status as a collector car, and that you should snatch up the very next one that you find. I am just not sure that rarity is the only equation, though. To me, a collector car has to have appeal beyond having the only one on the block. It’s not a “poster car” either. Name for me one performance shop or friend with an R63 AMG poster on their wall, and I’ll eat my hat.

One must remember the R63 AMG was met with criticism straight away. It seemed like AMG had their hand in the cookie jar just a bit too long and the company ethos didn’t really sit well with a people-mover. Simply put, no one wanted one back then, and I don’t think many people will in the future. I could very wrong though, so if one of you does by that R63 in the link above, I’d settle for a finder’s fee.
