What Would You Pay for a 400,000-Mile, 2003 E55 AMG?

I recently posted about a CLS63 AMG which, despite its deplorable condition, had almost completed the journey to 400,000 miles on the odometer. It was priced correctly, at about $8,000, with some obvious room to negotiate. This car, however, I feel is priced a bit optimistically. Located in Chicago, thisĀ 2003 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG has a history of being a California car, which explains the fairly good cosmetics, however at $11,900, I get the feeling that an unsuspecting buyer is about to be duped.

Not only does it have the mileage of an 18-wheeler, but it also has a history of airbag deployment, followed by another accident report. In fairness, the Carfax shows regular use throughout the years, rather than one big spike in mileage all at once. As for the rest of the car, I’d love to show you pictures of the interior’s condition, but those have been conveniently left out of the advertisement. I can see that the brakes are in dire need of replacement, too, with heavy gouging and uneven wear on both front rotors.

So the big question: would you drop $12K on a car like this?
