Watch This Awesome Save in a Mercedes AMG GT3

By -

A Spanish AMG GT3 racer takes a corner sideways and flat, but wait till you see what happens next!

Last weekend, Spanish racer Daniel Juncadella put on a short clinic on “How to Save Your Expensive Race Car From Certain Doom.” While racing the AKKA ASP Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 at the Brands Hatch Circuit in England for the Blancpain Sprint Series, Juncadella bottomed the Merc out on an exit curb. He kept his right foot on it the whole time, though, and the GT3 car kicked sideways. Before any Joe Schmo would have had a chance to realize the wall beckoned, Juncadella counter-steered calmly, and carried on. It may not be the save of the year, but it’ll definitely be on the highlight reel.

What’s more amazing than this save? Here’s what: we’re talkin’ about practice. This wasn’t qualifying, or even the race. Juncadella put the screws to it during practice. An old sports coach once said that “Practice doesn’t make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect.” This hardly is “perfect” driving, but he’s sure driving practice laps like he means them.

Ultimately, Juncadella and his co-driver, Felix Serralles, took home a fourth place in the weekend’s qualifying race. That qualifying race set the grid for the main race, which didn’t pan out for the duo in the bright-red AKKA ASP Mercedes AMG GT3. They took home a disappointing 27th place after a mechanical failure took them out of contention. However, Juncadella will be back in the car with Puerto Rican driver Serralles this weekend at the Blancpain Endurance Series race at Silverstone. Tristan Vautier, another open-wheel veteran, will join the duo in the unmistakably red AMG.

And if GT racing doesn’t pan out for Juncadella, we can assume he has a potential career in professional drifting. Check out the rubber laid behind the mega-drift.
