You’ll Soon Get to Plug In Your New Mercedes-Benz S-Class
This fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz is said to be debuting a plug-in hybrid S-Class that will go on sale sometime in 2014.
Autoblog says the S-Class plug-in hybrid will beat out the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid in minimizing C02 emissions. They also say it will emit less than certain Priuses (Prii). Take that, boring hybrid Prius.
Motive force is carried out by a 3.5-liter petrol V6 plus an electric motor powered by a trunk-mounted battery pack. Electron power alone could move the S-Class as far as 20 miles according to Green Car Reports, who also say 0-60 times are expected to be less than six seconds.
According to Autocar, when it comes to luxury hybrids, Mercedes-Benz is the German leader, outselling all its country-folk competitors combined. Sixty percent of last year’s S-Class hybrids were sold in China.
