S63 Information
An email I thought I should share with you all:

Good to hear from you and thank you for writing to us.
For the new Series 221 S-Class, we plan both the upcoming S65 AMG (V-12) as well as a replacement for the outgoing S55 AMG (V-8).
Although the new vehicle has not been named in public yet, you can probably guess that the AMG V-8 S-Class will be based on the new generation "63" AMG engine. I cannot reveal specifics on this model to you yet, but I can promise that its performance will be outstanding and it will take advantage of many of the new features found on the new S65 AMG (compound brakes with sliding caliper design for example).
We have not yet released any market launch timing, but you can expect this new AMG early next year.
Keep an eye on the automotive press, especially European reports later this summer since details on this car will appear there first.

Same here. Now the real question is whether or not its a FI engine or a simple NA engine. I for one am hoping its the FI 63 engine. The RSE would just be icing on the cake.

It will be a turbo charged engine, a friend who is a manager for a benz dealership was in a corporate meeting with rob allen's boss and it was said the s and cl will have turbo charged engine.

I'm sure that relates to the 65. There is no way they are going to change the engine. I'm guessing it will certainly be a 63 that is nearly identical to that in the E, CLS, etc (ofcourse tuned slightly different with a some extra hp perhaps)

I agree that the turbo makes sense. The "performance will be outstanding" comment in the email would seem to telegraph that this much heavier car won't be shamed by, say, an E63, not to mention an S55. Low-end torque is critical to the AMG experience, especially in the heavier S-class and to the S-class driver. The tradeoff of higher revs for bottom end might be marginally acceptable in an E or CLS, but will be unsatisfactory for many (most?) S55 drivers. (Gearing is also part of the E-vs-S experience difference, and this makes the problem worse.) AMG knows all of this well.
The big question is the transmission. Will it still use the 5-speed, or will they finally have a hardened 7-speed?

No, I don't know him. Some of you out there that have taken the AMG challenge have probably met Rob. That's how I was introduced to him.
I'll be curious to see what the engine and transmission ends up being. I imagine we'll know in the next two months. They are probably holding out to try to get some 65's sold...

Why would they make all that hype about the new 6.3L engine being N/A, blah blah blah, and then end up making the S63 (and CL63 supposedly) a TT. Just doesn't make sense to me.

If AMG doesn't increase the output of the 6.3 (especially torque) for the S63, it will compare badly to the S55. If they do increase the output by even 50 HP they jeopardize the S65 franchise. As it is, it is hard to justify $60,000 or more for 200 ccs and 100 HP. Yes, the torque comparison is a bit more favorable, but the 7-speed vs. 5-speed dulls that edge as well. AMG marketing must be losing sleep.
