Speed Limiters

In my experience, speed limiters don't work perfectly. The 2002 W210 E320 with the Special Edition package is supposed to have a limiter that prevents it from going past 130 mph. However, I've gotten the car to approximately 133 where the limiter stopped it.

The 2005 C230 Kompressor seems to have a limiter at 130 mph, but I haven't seen it go past 125 so I don't know where the limiter really is at.

Another weird one. a 2002 BMW 525i which supposedly has the limiter set at 130 mph (according to the 2003 brochure which is of the same body style/chassis number just different year) has gone 147 and was still able to go.

Once again, limiters don't seem to work perfectly. 130 and 133 are different. 130 and 147 is very different.

If I may say, beside the fact that all Mercedes Cars are built with the Autobahn in mind, a well known fact in Germany is that large Mercedes sedans like the E class and the S class were built for the autobahn as high speed executive cars for the business men who conduct daily business by going from town to town for meetings. When I lived in Germany in the 90's, I was told that one of the reasons why the Autobahns remain unlimited is that by placing a speed limit would affect a lot the business flow. Its faster for business people to drive to a meeting in another town, than take the plane or train. A common sight for me when I was going to work everymorning using the A1 Autobahn , was high speed trains so to speak of Mercedes E class , S class , BMW's 7 series all doing about 250mph in a row... It was an awesome sight to see! My company car sucked big time, it was an Opel Astra from hell,
so I was stuck on the right lane doing 160kph where these high speed trains passed me like I was standing... Once I drove an S500 sedan and an E300TD. The S500 was amazingly stable at 250+ where the E at top speed of 200kph was a bit unstable if there were strong winds. Having now my E320, it reminds me of that S500 in the way it drives. I think the issue back then was more the aero design of the 95 E class than a suspension issue.

I think you mean 250 KPH, yes? We will never see an E or S go 250mph in our lifetimes.

On our way to Palm Springs I hit 130 MPH in the wife's 2000 e320. She was in the passenger seat and the my Mother in law in the back....Both just yacking up a storm and not paying attention to me or the 745il next to me. My Wife looks around and then leans over and says......

"We Better Not Be Doing 130"

Just then I look over at the Beemer and see that his Wife is objecting more strongly to this speed.............This ***** is actually slapping the guy over and over in the face at 130 mph..........so I backed off and watched him through his back window get his *** kicked.[
.....Lol

Only the US delivery cars are speed limited. That is because they were fitted with H-Rated tires (top speed for that rating is 130). The reason goes back to the 140 Chassis S-Class. In the early '90s M-B was sued by S-Class owners that didn't like the stiff ride and rapid wear of the higher performance tires. My 1988 300TE was originally equiped with V-rated tires and was not speed limited. I saw about 135 in that car once.

I have taken my 1992 400E to 155mph - the car felt like it wanted more - too fast.

Took my 2002 E320 AWD wagon up to 100 for the first time today. It felt like I was standing still. The car could care less. I backed off quick because there's no reason to get a ticket when I wasn't really in a hurry; just finally introducing myself to 100 mph.

Mercedes E 220 CDI 2000
My diesel 2000 E 220 CDI get's 220 - 230 Kph in a straight line but I've took it to 241 Kph in a descent. Mine is the european sport version (called Avantgarde here) and it is very stable at this speeds due to the stiff suspension and lower chassis. The silence on the interior is also very good. Great car this is. My 2004 BMW 730d doesn't give a better security sensation than the Mercedes at those speeds.

I reach that speed in the digital odometer in a very big descent on a highway. Revs were beyond the red-line, so no more speed can be reached without putting the engine in a big danger.

Manual gear C 220 CDI reach the 150 MPH in a straight line, as I've seen it in a friend's car. Trully amazing for this level's of power, isn't it?

Took my 98 E430 to 135mph and kept it there for like 30 seconds or more .. It wanted to go faster, but, my governor stoped it. How do I dissable this speed limiter where could I send it to? or is there a DIY?... I would love that to go along with my dissabled traction control

P.S. I was somewhat dissapointed My dads import 96 S600 from germany will go 175MPH. and its been done cant say its safe though.

I hit 155 a few times coming back from work on the NJ turnpike.
E430 Sport, no mods, no upgrades, I didnt feel the limiter kicking in and it sure feels like it wants more. A bit floaty after 135 on turns, and going around traffic while switching lanes, other then that nice feel to it.
Had my mustang up to 170 on the NJ turnpike, wanna talk about floaty

Had it to 145mph on the 10 between Arizona and Cali. Car seemed to have more to go but unfortunately I didnt. Good for me because highway patrol got me later doing 110. Got lucky he only wrote me for 85. said he was following me for 8 miles.

Man there is some huge BS in this thread.

1. Speedometers are widely inaccurate at those speeds. You'd need it GPS verified.

2. 221bhp e320s that weigh 3700lbs "toying" with G35s that have 60 more hp and weigh less? Doubtful

3. and 3500lb lexi flipping over at over 100mph because they are "so light"

god, do you people really believe your own dribble.
