Transmission Modulator Help

Hello,

I have replaced the blown head gasket, took everything apart myself, had it put back together professionally. Valve job, new seals, and labor on putting it back together = to $600.

Mechanic told me I have to replace the transmission modulator because the diaghram in the current one is leaking and intake has sucked in 2 quarts of ATF into the engine.

So i went to buy one from a good Mercedes parts place, they gave me a Red one which my car needs but after opening the Febi Bilstein box inside is a cream-brown colored Effbe modulator which is the OEM company. The one on the car is clearly bright red but parts place tries to tell me it's the correct one because another one he brought out with a manufacturer tab never broken was the same inside.

The part # is 126 270 25 79 on the box and the stores tag shows 126 270 9079. Mechanic says the brown one is lower pressure so my shifts will be softer which I don't want them to be, and why the hell are Effbe modulators in Bilstein boxes factory sealed.

Tomorrow I will go to the Benz dealer and see what color modulator they show me. I was just wondering, is the red faded? The number on he modulator is 363.

Should I just put that one in?

Thanks
Maciej

P.S.- Transmission slips in 1st and 2nd gears 75% of the time, there is alittle too much ATF, is that causing the problem? I never had that happen before adding more ATF. Sorry if this is alittle bit confusing. Please reply with any questions or comments. Thanks

Yes you will need the red modulator since that is whats on your car. The different color modulators are because they regulate different pressures. I would also recommend that you replace the vacuum tube that goes from the intake manifold to the modulator. Too much ATF can make it slip also.

Thanks for the response. I have been told that an Effbe and not original MB part may have a different color even though it's the correct pressure. I guess that's a valid point...
