Smoking Behind Fuse Box
OK heres the deal. I went to the cabin in Big Bear this past weekend it snowed about a foot. On sunday morning i went out started the car, turned on the defrost, turned on the rear defrost. When i returned to the car a few minutes later I noticed the sirus had fallen off the windshield and landed on the cruise control shifter pushing down to the decel position, and the car was full of SMOKE ( PANIC). I noticed it was coming out of the defrost vents. I opened the hood and noticed smoke coming out from what appeared to be behind the fuse box area. Between the fuse box and the firewall. So I started packing snow in there and could hear it sizzling OMG. So after i got my heartbeat down to 200 beats per minute to did a control restart keeping a close eye on things. I let the rear defrost off and just ran the heater. The car ran fine all the way back to vegas. Does anyone know whats down there that might have something to do with The rear window defrost, cruise control. Hopfully my repair manual gets here this week.

the cruise amp is there, i wouldnt think it smokes if you hold it for extended periods of time. Did it smell like and electrical fire or anything like that. I would try to find the source, was it also in the cabin?

Just smoke under the hood
The only smoke in the cabin was getting there via the defroster. All the smoke was coming out from behind the fuse box. 1992 2.6 sportline. Oh yeah it was electrical for sure.

try maybe removing the 4 screws that hold your fuse panel on and see if you see anything messed up in the wires underneath. Did your cruise control work before and after?

I did not want to take a chance on re-activating the cruise control on the way home. So to answer your question. The cruise did work on the way there.
