So I bought a pile of poo
At least that’s what my 7 year old son says. I just bought a 190e that was sitting in a driveway for 5 years and is very weathered. It runs great with only 104,430 miles and I got it for cheep. I have no misunderstandings about what I bought and expect this to be a project car. So far I have fixed all of the little dings, put on a new hood, changed the headlights to euros, the rims are out for powder coating and I will have it painted within the next couple of weeks. With a lot of work I plan bring this car back up to par.
Question one, I have never owned a MB so forgive my ignorance. Below is a picture of the engine and it looks like someone has bypassed a sensor. Can anyone tell me what it is for? OPPS WRONG PIC, I will post it tonight
Question two my air conditioner has a mind of its own and only blows air when it feels like it. sometimes no air at all other times full blast. I leave the knob on full blast all the time. Any Sug.?

Here is a pic of the car before we got drunk. You can not tell in the pic but the hood is damaged from someone standing or sitting on it so it was replaced.
This is the item I was curious about. It is to the left of the distributor at the front of the engine. If you look at the red thing with two prongs, then look to the right. Someone looped with a blue wire, the wire that should plug into the red thing. I assume this is to bypass a sensor but what sensor is this. If anyone could let me know I would appreciate it.

That is the fan temp sensor. It operates the clutch fan on a 2.3 and aux fan and will have those two prongs plus one more. If you have a 2.6 then it operates the aux fans and is two prong and the 2.6 has a viscous clutch fan on it. Bypassing on a 2.3 like that would engage the clutch fan always and you will hear it roar as your RPM's increase and be robbed of power as well.

Yes, that is a , what can I say we were really drunk.
I will try to plug the sensor back in but I assume they bypassed it for some lame reason (like the last owner was to cheep to fix the real problem).

jesus i would never go anywhere near my car with a can of spray, even if i was replacing the hood.
(i'd take the hood off and go to the back alley, overspray scares me)

The car is still on stands, waiting for the wheels to come back from powder coat. I saw the first two wheels and they look very clean like they just rolled off the line. I plan on keeping the car as a daily driver so for know I just want to clean it up and keep it running. I am sure that will change as I get deeper into the project.
