190E 2.3 16V Suspension Issues

This is my first posting. I have a 1986 190E 2.3 16V and I'm looking to upgrade the suspension and do away with the SLS. I purchased H&R springs with Koni adjustables all around. I have aftermartket tires on the car and it's rubbing everywhere. I called Mercedes and was told that there are different Coil Spring Shims in 8mm, 13mm, 18mm and 23mm. Has anyone encounter this problem and have the shims been the way to go? What is the car equipt with originally? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What size tires are you running?

There are spring pads which are seated at the top of all four coil springs on your car. These pad thicknesses vary depending upon what options your vehicle is fitted with. The max spring pad size for the front is 23mm and the rear is 18mm. You can look at yours and determine the spring pads size by the amount of tabs on the spring pads. 1 tab = 8mm, 2 tabs = 13mm; etc.

what size wheels do you have? I have the same set up on my 16v and it does not rub. Buy a couple of the different spring pads and test it out, they are not expensive. I do not remember which ones i have or else i would help you out. This set up will work, and work well, once you get the correct spacing

I am in CT. I want to thank everyone for their input. I've actually gone ahead and ordered 23mm shims for the front and 18mm shims for the rear. It's my weekend project. I'm running 225/45-16 for tires. The car handles great, and l love the fact that you don't see allot of them around. I just hope that this takes care of the rubbing. Everytime I go over a bump and hear it, it tears my heart.
