Completly new to European cars, much less MB.

I come from a Japanese tuning background ('91 FC3S RX-7 T-II, '89 RPS13 240SX) and I have found myself wanting to move into a more...Mature(?) direction I suppose you could say.

That being said I have looked into various European cars and even Japanese luxury (I went from 10 series LS400, to E30 BMW...Even MK2-MK3 VW) and I have been stuck on the W201 and W124 platforms, mainly the 190E.

So with my introduction out of the way ...

What are some links to tuning/performance sites for the 190E (even W124 platform links would be nice)? I would like to go subtle but I enjoy mild aero enhancements (replica 16v and Evo kits?). Where would I find sites to these objects. Also, is there a coilover suspension made for the 190E that can be bought somewhat easily? Thanks in advance for the help.

The things you'll notice in examining a W201/W124 platform . . . German engineering and automobile assembly is pretty darned good. Arguably, these were built at the height of the pre-electronics "golden era" of Mercedes sedans. They are relatively easy to work on and "over engineered" compared to many other road cars.

The easy question to answer . . . there are no "off the shelf" coil over suspension pieces for the W201 or W204. The suspension and chassis design and geometry is not designed for it. There are other means of tuning the suspension on these cars, via spring rates and sway bars, including the use of parts from other Mercedes, like the SL500, W124 Estates and LWB cars.

In the quest for more HP, engine swaps are all the rage. As is conversion to true EFI, forced air and other traditional tuning methods. The largest impediment to power is the quasi-mechanical fuel injection system, the same system used by Porsche, VW, Volvo, Audi in the mid 80's. If you know how to tune a VW Sirocco or GTi from that era, you know what to do.

They are great cars but if you want serious power and easy accessibility, look elsewhere.

Considering the previous cars you've had, go for the 190e.
