new guy waterpump problem

Our 93 190e 2.3, is losing water. There is a hose hear that goes nowhere and also liquid running down one of the pulleys.

First off, where did the hose connect to? Second, will replacing water pump solve everything?

note:
<--- not real mechanically inclined.

Thanks, John

What I see in the picture is your alternator and a hose that goes from the auxillary water pump to the metal line that carries the coolant to the interior heater core.

There should be a thermally insulated (silver foil) hose that covers the wires from the alternator that protects the wires that run from the alternator to through the firewall from the exhaust manifold heat.

Hi, i had exactly the same problem, replacing the water pump fixed it

very easy job to do, just take off everything in front of the water pump to get to it and swap out (remember to drain ya water :P otherwise you might get a bit wet)

that hose is an overflow pipe (make sure you get the correct water pump for it, autos dont have this if i remember correctly, also remmber to plug up one of the holes with the bolt provided... basically just make sure you put the water pump in that has the same configuration as the one your taking out)

(sorry if this sounds patronizings, figured i would say everything i learnt when replacing mine just in case you are as ill educated on cars as me :P)

anymore questions head over to http://www.mercedes190.co.uk very knowledgeable and friendly guys there

best of luck fixing it should be very cheap and easy

Chris

A T-30 Torx bit should take them right out. I like to loosen them before I remove the serpentine belt.

Loosening them is cake on the 2.3. Dont put a hex in there youll stip it and kick yourself in the *** for days.

Use the right tools.
