New user and his 190E

Good evening,

My name is Malcolm and i will be looking here for help with my 190E.

I have owned it for approx 2 months.

It came with AMG 16s on. I was told by the bloke i bought it off that i needed new tyres on the front because they will rub. Got new tyres on the front however they still rubbed. The wheels we worked out were for a 2.3, 2.5 or 2.6. I have an 1985 2.slow.

The only remedy was new wheel/tyre combo (rock hard suspension was out of the question) so i now have Alexia Jestalt 3 Diamond series 18x7.5

we had to replace the driveshaft (the bearing/support in the centre of the shaft had worn out)

also at cruising speed (90kmh or 50mph i guess) the car would occasionally slow down, as if i had firmly applied the brakes, however i hadnt. It was only an intermittent problem. I had to change back to 2nd to get some drive out of the car. There was a problem with my brake lines which was forcing the pads onto the disc. The drag on the drivetrain also scored the clutch. So i have a new clutch, front pads and brake lines. Im sure something else will happen shortly

as i said i have only had it for 2 months about.

i plan to do a C32 AMG conversion once off my p-plates in 3 years (in australia the governement has banned turbo, supercharged and cars with greater than and including 8 cylinders to stop us killing ourselves).

I have added a "D" sticker (D, german flag and german eagle) as a nod to the fatherland. Our family also originated from bavaria. I guess that means i should be with the "other brand".

The last 2 pics are next to my dads dubby GTI. That thing is so nice to drive. Ill get him one day though

c&c welcome.

Stick with the AMG wheel package - those chrome wheels look gaudy as hell, entirely out of place on a German sedan. The tire size was probably too wide.

Thanks

Ahhm i missed this bit in the first post, the rims poked out about 10mm at the rear. Tucked in a fraction at the front. Rims not tyres. If it was just the tyres i would have kept the AMG package because i believe its a lot cleaner look. Less showy. I get alot of looks at the moment. Which isnt half bad as long as its the right attention.

I quite like the chrome wheels. For the price i got them they are a bloody good deal. $1900 AUD. Whereas i believe a genuine AMG package would be in the region of $5000 AUD. My uncle has an (04 i think) S320 on AMG 18s. It looks **** but the package was $7000. Considering i paid $7500 for the whole car....I said i dont have that money lol

I really want to do the C32 conversion. With that conversion im thinking BBS LMs with painted black centres/polished lip. Or Borbet Type A's (like in the other thread) or Schmidt TH-Lines.

Expect to pay more than $7500 for a C32 conversion.
How will you be defeating the drive authorization system(DAS)?
Would be nice to know of a simple way to do it.

Its black and manual. Which are very rare (especially manual) in Austrlia, i guess because it was an option when bought.

Even more things going wrong with it now lol...its good fun, character building.

Ahhm 3 posts on the forum, i would say im not qualified to know anything about benzes. Being 17 may also play a part.

Big learning curve for me. Most of my research up until now has been for the GTI, of which the vortex has a wealth of information.
My technical knowledge of the car runs as deep as, 1996cc, 122hp, 1100kg, 5x112 stud/bolt pattern. Not too far indeed.

That said i have no clue what the "DAS" system is form the C32AMG, but i believe that because your v8 fits it will. An intercooler, boost pulley, exhaust and intake should yield close to 220 rwkw i think. (350hp ????) Reliability is what i was looking for, and improved fuel economy. It drinks alot at the moment (it has already been "tuned" once) and still has what feels/seems like a fuel surge problem. Ie. occasional flat spots in the power band. It also just dies if i pull up too quickly with the clutch in occasionally which is weird.

Thanks for the interest. Fetting it engineered and legal in Australia will be the difficult bit. As well as sourcing a donor engine Its a few years away though
