will 87 300e transmission work on 92 190e
I am new and have done extensive work on this car (1992 190e 2.6 automatic leather sunroof white 159,000 miles.) It has been a wonderful car.
I have lost the drive in it. it works great untill it shifts into drive and it slips. in town I can just put it in third and or second and it is strong. I found a 1987 300e that has a good tranny and was hoping that they are interchangable. I was told the nuetral safety switch might be a problem and the ccolant lines are different. I hope that someone can give me some insight on this. Thank you....

The neutral safety switch is a different part number between the two chassis, as is the speedo cable, however the vacuum modulator is the same part. In other words, it's 99.5% comaptible and the parts that are different are not "crucial" or major impediments to doing the swap.
Cost and reliability in the future should be kept in mind. How good is the 300E trans versus other used trans or a rebuild of the current one. From experience, rebuilds can come close to original performance, but it's extremely hard to set them up so that the shifts are as smooth or at the original rpm, it's just the nature of the rebuild process.
