Question Dashboard lights questions

How hard is it to get to the dashboard lights?

The instrument panel seems to be all lit, but the all the temp. control buttons are not (and I am guessing that is incorrect [?]).

Also, in the centre console (by the automatic selector), only one window switch is lit. Again, I am assuming they should all be lit.

If it isn't too hard to resolve, is there a standard set of bulbs I should get?

PS. I love my 79 Fiat... It has one light under the dashboard with fibre optics going to the centre console controls!

I haven't done it, but I have read where the cluster is only held in place by friction, so you can just pull it out. You are supposed to press outwards and pull. I'd make sure my hands were warm and slightly damp for best adhesion to the plastic. Once it gets going, you are supposed to reach up under the dash (after removing any trim panels in the way) and twist off the speedo cable to avoid stretching it. Once it's out, you'll see all the bulbs.

Thank you Jim!

Those, I think are all working. It is the ones on the temp. control buttons and window switches that I need to replace (if indeed they are supposed to be lit).

All ideas welcome!

The bulbs for the climate controls are located on the push button unit and fan speed sliding switch.

Thanks again MTI! Now, I know they are there, what I am trying to figure out is how you get to them... Is this also a pressure fit moulding?

Both the climate control button unit and the fan speed controller are screwed into place in the center console. You access the screws by removing the ashtray and radio/stereo.

The lights for the button unit are located under a cover on the top of the unit.

You rock MTI! Thank you. I'll have to see if I can manage to fix it without braking to many things in the process

Cheers
