W201 Drive Shaft Claw Question

W201 Drive Shaft Claw Question
Vehicle is a 1985 190e W201 2.3 12v automagic
I was recently given a 85 W201, nice little car. The previous owner drove the car untill the driveshaft dampener shattered. It runined the front Dampener and the smaller center one. The rear section to the diff is fine.
i removed the driveshaft and found that the output shaft from the transmission was damaged along with the lower transmission mount.
The transmission mount and dampener is easy to fix. My question is about the output shaft. It looks like a 12pt 27mm or 30mm.
1. What is the name of this thing? Some people on the forums call it the "3 claw" I was wondering what the technical name was for it so i can find a replacement.
2. Is the Nut a 27 or 30mm?
3. After removing the large nut Does the "3 claw" come right off?
4. Will transmission fluid leak out of it thus should i drain it first
5. If i must drain the tranny, can i use Dextron3 or <, or must i use MB-ATF?
Thanks in advance
edit: 12v sorry...

40 view no replies... figured a few things out myself, just incase anyone ever wonders...
1. What is the name of this thing? Some people on the forums call it the "3 claw" I was wondering what the technical name was for it so i can find a replacement.
Parts Tech at NAPA calls it a "Yolk", Good enuf for me
2. Is the Nut a 27 or 30mm?
12 point 30mm Deep Socket, regular wont work because the shaft in the center hits the back of the socket. Sears is the only place i found it. NAPA CSK, and AutoZone dont have it
3. After removing the large nut Does the "3 claw" come right off?
Yes but you might have to tap it lightly with a hammer to jar it loose, its been on there for over 23 years! Be careful of the very thin shims that are on there, you will have to replace these. They go between the yolk and the transmission.
4. Will transmission fluid leak out of it thus should i drain it first
Nothing came out of mine but i left a bucket under there just incase the last person who worked on it might have overfilled the trans.
5. If i must drain the tranny, can i use Dextron3 or <, or must i use MB-ATF?
Im going to put Dextron3+ in it and see what happens
Sad thing is, it would have helped alot to know these things BEFORE i dropped the trans... Pictures below. My yolk and Driveshaft are damaged beyond repair and i will have to go to local junk yards. If anyone has these parts please let me know
Thanks...

Would have been easier if i could have removed the exhaust... but somene cut off the flange and welded the cat strait on... so after the exhaust mani, its one long pipe all the way to the back. Ended up sliding the driveshaft out near the rear diff.

1993 190E 2.6
Standard tranny fluid is fine, from what I know most regualr models up to 96 or so. They changed the trannies so they only run on MB fluid from what I have read. I used regualr stuff in mine.
I was lookign at the size of your drive shaft, I have the 2.6 and let me tell you I can get hand around half my drive shaft. Yours looks so small from the pic.

very helpful indeed since i have to get started on my 190 with 300ce engineswap.
So it`s really that easy? jack the car up, remove parts of the exhaust and your off?

Thanks for the info. I myself just had this happen. Gotta go tomorrow morning and fetch a 30mm deep socket from Napa. $15
Went today and got a driveshaft from another car at the junk yard. I should have grabbed the yolk also but I will be getting it in the morning.
Mine's bent so I must replace it also. Didn't realize how bent it was until I tried to bolt a new driveshaft on it.
