thinking of getting a 88 190e wont start when hot!!!

1988 Mercedes 190E, automatic 4 cyl. I bought this car on a lien sale from a towing company. I put some money into this car such as a new ignition switch, alternator, tensioner, fuel pump, overload and fuel pump relay. The car runs and drives but when it is warm the car is hard to start and at times will drain the battery before it starts. There is no radio in the car.

It failed miserably and classified a gross polluter. The car has 208,000+ miles.

So what do you think easy fix?? I really want a manual but its cheap.

ALLDATAdiy.com has testing for a difficult start when the engine is warm, for your Mercedes. The first thing it says to check on your 190E is the fuel pressure. You can also check your Injection Valve, as well as your Evap system. If you have an impulse counter, ALLDATAdiy.com can show you how to test the Lambda Control Unit.

I have an 1989 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.6 liter 6 cylinder with K-Jetronic fuel injection. I have replaced the fuel pump check valves, both of them. Replaced all injectors. Replaced cold start valve. Replaced overload protection relay. My problem is that it does not want to start when it's cold. Have to turn the engine over for more than 10 to 20 seconds before it will fire once.

Then try again and it will run but feels like its running on three cylinders. Then it feels like all of them kick in eventually. Then it runs fine. Starts fine too when hot. Checked fuel pressure at fuel distributor and I got 60 psi then I lose it after 20 or 30 minutes.

Hi I did not buy this car but I do own a 86 300e. I had that same problem. I changed the check valve thats right behind the fuel pump and I cleaned the fuel distributor. E mail me if you need to know how to do it. Also get carb cleaner and spray around injectors make sure there sealed.......Also Pull your distributor (flap) check rubber underneath. mine was cracked all over.U can spray carb all you want and you will miss that rubber .
