Motor Mount - Top Bolt Won't Move
I have a 1990 2.3 and easily replaced the right hand engine mount.
I spent about 3 hours trying to remove the left hand side top bolt but I just couldn't get the 17mm spanner or sockets in a position where I could get any force on the bolt at all.
The RHS top bolt was stuck very tight , so I know that it needs a lot of force to remove.
I don't really want to remove the inlet manifold, but I cannot see any way to get to this bolt.
Any assistance would be appreciated. I am thinking I need to take it to a repair shop that might have some special device to get to this nut ?
thanks
Doug

Do you have a stubby 17mm wrench or one you can cut down?
If so, you can try to get one on the nut and use a pry bar to force the wrench to move. Make sure you don't pry on something that could break easy.

thanks - but I cannot even work out how to get a pry bar in there. Absolutely no room anywhere I can see (and I looked for 3 hours !)
I think the mount may have collapsed a bit as their is just no space from the top at all and from the bottom I cannot get even close with my big arms.
I received some advice to take off the Fuel Distributor and Air Flow sensor which are pretty much right above the bolt - I hope then to be able to get a long sock extension and flexible joint down there.
I still am a bit doubtful as to this working as the RHS 17mm top bolt was really really tight, so I will need to get the socket lined up pretty straight to get a lot of force - not sure the 2 flexible socket exteders I have will enable me to get enough purchase on it - I will report back next week after I try.

I had the same problem. I finally was able to locate an opening through the intake manifold. Linkage may need to be disconnected. I used a long 3/8 extension (24") I put the socket on the bolt first and then attached the extension to the socket. The extension goes through the manifold. I used a breaker bar to crack the bolt loose. I had to raise the engine also to get the best angle.
