Diesel gas pedal doesn't back off when cold.
I'm suffering an annoying issue on a '86 190D 2.5 and any advice from you would be appreciate:
The engine first starts ok whatever temperature, but when cold if the gas pedal is pressed it doesn't back off quickly enough. The engine revs up for a while so you can't drive normally in these conditions until the engine warms up.
The pedal cable moves freely so the problem is not there. From the lever on the top of the intake manifold to the injection pump you move the linkages by hand and there is a constant resistance with a slow movement in both ways causing that bad effect on driving. The small spring in the injection pump lever is present but, I don't know if the shock-absorber that sits there has any compression function and needs replacement. I assume this is not the malfunction origin because when the engine is warm it accelerates and decelerates normally.
So, are there any other components (temp sensors, vacuum lines, etc.) that could affect injection pump lever and must be checked to track the problem?
Thank you in advance.
