sometimes my engine ticks while it'd running. is this a potential problem. car has 100k miles. do u think its' the valve lifters?...how much would it cost to fix that?...or is that normal for a 190e?..any help appreciated

It is normal for the hydrolic lifters to tick a little bit when you start it up on cold mornings. If it doesn't stop within like 10 seconds then you may have a problem.

I used to get the ticking too but I dumped in 1 bottle of Chevron with Techron and it kinda went away but you can still hear it faintly so on my 2nd tank of gas I put another bottle of Techron in and it went away. Using gas with low detergency might cause some ticking noises so stick to Tier 1 91 Octane gas after its fixed.

Sorry about that... Not sure how I managed to post so many...

Not to say that the ticking is expected during normal operation. But on a 20 year old engine I wouldn't be running the the MB shop to get it checked out.

thx 4 all the responses. i do use 91 octane, sythetic oil, zeemax oil & gas treatment. it's not that loud & nothing leaks. so do u think i should consult an mb mechanic?
