Overheating 190E 2.6

I am trying to diagnose a problem long distance. My son has been driving my 190E for the past 8 months or so and it has overheated twice in the past two weeks. He has been on the highway both times. He noticed the water light come on and then he heard a boiling, gargling sound and then steam. He was able to replace the water and make it home. I replaced the water pump and thermostat two years ago. I did not replace any hoses, caps or the reservoir tank. The water is boiling, but it happens without notice. I told him to check his oil for a milky substance and he found nothing. Overall, the car runs solid, just overheats. What do you think it could be?

If the coolant level drops it has to go somewhere. There is a leak somewhere internal (headgasket) or external (can see puddle/wet carpet...)
Quickest way to find the leak is a pressure tester if you have one.

I would also check the fans and fuses, but since you say this happened on the highway this is probably not the problem.

My 190e did the same thing before a radiator change . Verify all 3 fans are functioning.

radiator for sure. it gets so gummed up after all the years and it should be replaced. they are pretty cheap if i remember correctly and install is a 2 of 5 as far as diy. i changed all the usual suspects and until i replaced radiator/ nothing worked. I was hoping someone knew how to fix the "old, worn paint, blown dash lights, dead oil pressure gauge, drivers door key not working, what's next?" problem i continue to have with my 17+ year old car. too bad she keeps on running. $400.00 for misc parts annually on my 190 is far better than 12 car payments a year that i cant afford right now...
