Automatic Transmission

Greetings and Salutations

I have an 86 190e Automatic and seek advice. When I first purchased it, the transmission would shift sporadically, without rhyme or reason. Trouble shooting it I figured the modulator valve was the culprit. I changed fluid and filter, and filled to the correct level. After turning the Modulator valve adjuster counter-clockwise, increasing hydraulic pressure, correcting the Ignition Timing, the performance improved. I also swapped out Vacuum hose connections about the engine with High Temp silicone and reset the Bowden Cable and now it shifts reasonably and I can accept its performance.

The only gripe is the second to third shift is lethargic and doesn’t shift crisply as does the rest of the RPM shift points. Is this a symptom requiring the replacement of the K-1 valve of which the part number and instruction of installation is documented within the bowels of this forum?
