16V 5-Speed Disassembly

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can find information about taking apart the Getrag 5-speed from my 16V? I have the rear case loose, but it only comes off about an eighth of an inch, then stops. Not sure if there is more to disassemble on the reverse gear selector (I have the detent screw, spring and detent removed), or if the case just needs to be pulled off of the bearings. At this point there's nothing more on the outside of the trans I can take apart...

Thanks!

talk to you mercedes dealer and ask them who is authorized to work on them. Getrags are funny to work on and have very few replaceable parts. you can risn up on 190rev.net, i believe there is a guy on there who will tear it apart for you if you ship it to him. mine is stuck in 1st, going to have to swap it out with a standard 5-spd

Thanks Turnpike! A quick check on 190rev.net, and I found "xixang" who will tear it apart. He's got a couple of great pics as well. I'd like to do this project myself, so I've asked him if he will share any info on the disassembly process. I already have the bearing removal tool he mentions, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

MTI: I'd be stoked to find a thread with pics and descriptions. I've started to chronicle my process (an entire restoration of my 16V) at http://mb16v.wordpress.com and will put up pics and descriptions of my experience. Time will tell how much info I can share...

Well, I finally got the cases off the trans. It was surprisingly easy. If anyone would like to know all of the steps, I'll be updating them at http://mb16v.wordpress.com Thanks to "Racing" for posting descriptions and technical advice – a huge help!
