  • 1988: The AMG Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16 takes four wins in the German Touring Car Championship, Mercedes-Benz and AMG strike up an official partnership in motorsport.

I was at AMG in Affalterbach today and the only reference to any 190E stuff was a 2.5-16 engine sitting on a stand... too bad.

At the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart/Untertürkheim you can see the above shown 190E 2.5-16 EvoII! Every year at the "stars & cars" Mercedes-Benz event it's driving down the street

Which is weird, as it was really the first official "AMG Mercedes" road car offered for sale, even if it was a homologation special for the DTM.

The #3 car is the one that Ludwig used to win the 1992 DTM championship.

I also noticed a slight mistake in the time line: 1993 wasn't the last year for the 190E, Mercedes also ran the W201 in 1994, but it was for a "junior team" composed of newbie drivers. Although, the main focus of AMG that year was the W202, which won the championship first time out (again with Klaus).

Cheers, BT
