Coolant leak above Trans?

Hey all,

I have a new to me 2.3 8v (56,000 miles) and this morning was idling to check the trans fluid level when I noticed a puddle developing under the transmission. It appears to be mostly water or water/coolant.

I got under the vehicle and can't see where this is coming from, but it is dripping on the passenger side right about mid line on the trans pan. It seems to be a pretty good leak with about a drip a second. Seems to drip only when running. I had the AC button pushed, but the "0" on the fan control.

This is what my search turned up but there is no feedback on the linked question and the idea that a freeze plug at the rear of the block above the transmission went bad does make much sense to me, but I am open to whatever.

Any suggetions on what this might be? Where is there coolant flow at the rear of the block - maybe the heater core?

Thanks in advance.
