190E Track Build

Hey, I am looking for any kinda input on the ideas or even thing you might have heard that would work. I have a 190E and am building the car for strait track use only!! Things are (Suspension,Brakes). I am looking for an aggressive set-up. What are some coil-over kits that are available for the 201 chassis? I think it was H&R made a (Cup Kit) but that's all I have been able to find. The brakes now I hear that I can use the set-up off a 129 chassis, which I have to say should be nice but is there anything even newer than that I can swap to bolt up? The body will be widen so fit size can be larger then normal. I have a lot of cars that come and go so I'll be able to check all sorts of things out so any ideas would help a ton. I'll keep this going also cuz this will take all winter. Thanks

Try contacting RC Imports in Maryland, they raced a 190E for many years and will be happy to speak with you on their experiences and what works and doesn't.

R129 brakes will certainly bolt on, but will add weight....newer AMG brakes will work too if you can make a shim for the caliper to bolt onto....but even still...bigger brakes means more weight at the wheels which will slow you down.

There are plenty of tuners in Germany that race oldtimer 190Es in all sorts of venues....poke around some of the German forums and ask lotsa questions ! There is huge support over there....but to build up and oldie like a 190E will be expensive. Good luck !

No prob...I'm sure Rick at RC would love to talk about it with you. There was another wealthy Asian guy in Canada that built up a 190E and raced it well...Tiger racing? Long time ago...google it.

Its pretty easy to, well, better to say it can be done....big (or was it a small block?) block Ford motor was found to fit into the 201 chassis....last century a privateer from NC built one up, all custom tube cage, custom suspension, etc, etc....and would bring it to the national MB events. Prolly a whole lot cheaper than building up a 190E motor the right way.

If I come across his name I'll post it, maybe some others folks here remember the guy/car?

Brakes

I am thinking of putting C36 brakes on the car. Has anyone ever done that conversion on a 190E?

I would like to lower my 190 but, nothing extreme just lower and maintain the ride.

Buy the H&R Cup Kit, I installed it on my 2.3-16 and I love it. Lowered it just enough and firmed up the ride the right amount for either track or street. Look into some aftermarket wheels. You'd be surprised how much weigh you can save by going aftermarket. Forget about AMG wheels/MB wheels they are too heavy.

Good luck Thebuilder, I have been trying to track down 190e parts for some time and it is near impossible unless you simply want OEM replacements. I am going to email a friend of mine who works for RSR Nurburg (a car rental company that rents for people on the Nurburgring and SPA Francorchamps) and see if he can help out at all. My project is slightly different than yours but I'll let you know if I find anything out. Cheers and good luck!

Would you be interested in any of the suspension relocation parts, diagrams, etc I might wind up using? I'd imagine if you're going to put a M113 in this car that you will need beefier suspension than I'll wind up using. I am still trying to figure this mess out. Very confusing and so little in the way of resources. I am trying to replicate the Sonax DTM car from the 80's and 90's rather than just make a fast track car. As far as I know though all of the suspension points were moved in the DTM cars. Where-to, I am not sure yet, but I'm working on finding out. If you want the info on my harness bar, seats, steering wheel, and shift assembly let me know and I will PM it to you with prices.

You know I was dead set on a 113 motor, but not I am so far up in the air on what to use. I have about 3-4 different motors and trannys in mind to use. I think might be wrong but the DTM used a Tubular frames. So that would take on a whole new spin off on the suspension set-up. But any diagrams or whatever would help alot!! Thanks again

Tubular frame for the DTM cars? Can you explain? Also, the engine builder I have said he can get 320hp and 230tq out of the stock 2.3-16 engine very easily (which would save you a lot of work as well as keep your overall weight down) as well as still have a reliable engine when all is said and done. I can get you a price quote on that as well if you like
