Metallic Sound when putting in Reverse
Hey there,
Recently bought a 1991 190E 2.0. Whenever I put it into reverse there is a very audible metallic sound (sounds like when you hit two heavy metal pipes together) coming from the rear of the car, did a little reading and I think it is the flex disc. What should I do?
Also the car seems to bog down and shifting is a bit slow when on AC (seems to be a slight delay for a second without AC). Overall the car seems to drive very good! Has 138K on the odo, Japanese import into Pakistan.
Anybody with suggestions as to what other maintenance is required? I used to own a 1991 230TE in Abu Dhabi which I sold after 6 years without any major maintenance.

Probably the drive shaft flex disc, basically a rubber bushing that absorbs the shock of getting into gear of the trans, when this breaks apart shift into drive or reverse is very abrupt.
