w201 2.3 sohc has weird rattle noise, like a marble in a glass jar.
I think its an alternator bearing going out as recently when i start the car from cold it A: takes cranking it a second time to start and B: when it does start i get squeal from the belt (brand new) and when it squeals the lights on the car dim. once the car heats up it doesnt squeal any more. but when it get warm theres a rattling noise from what sound like the alternator or water pump area. the only way i can describe the noise is someone taking a glass marble and putting it in a mason jar then shaking it (not vigorously but not gently either). It is not rhythmic in nature so i dont believe it to be the water pump. it will click then stop for a second or two and keep going. (it does not click on start up). so im thinking maybe a flat spot on the alternator bearing? car has 195k miles.
