HELP! transmission not staying/shifting into 4th gear
hi all. my 86 190E 2.3 8V transmission has decided to take a dump on me by way of not staying in 4th or overdrive? i have checked the modulator vacuum tubing, etc.,and being as my fluid/filter are about two mos. old, an aftermarket gasket and filter,ruled out dirty or clogged filter possibly. in my research i found that maybe it could be the K1 shift valve could have gone bad, sounds like it is a common problem with these cars. does anyone think this may cure the problem? car shifts fine, and has plenty of power in 3, doesnt lag or hesitate when shifting either to reverse, or drive,, but seems to not want to stay in 4th. i went ahead and ordered the K1 setup from the dealer, along with a new OEM filter and gasket, just in the event it is something related to that... i read somewhere that most who have used an aftermarket gasket and filter have had problems with them, but it hasnt leaked a drop, and actually the fluid was very clean before i started, but wanted to change all fluids being as the few service records i got with the car didnt indicate the trans ever being serviced. anyone out there have this problem, and what was the cure other than rebuild /replace the trans??? any thoughts, suggestions ideas, or advice will be very appreciated! theres no way i can afford a new trans at present, and being as this is my daily driver, well you know the rest! thx in advance..
