190E wanting to modify

I have a spare 190E I was thinking to sell because of its rarity, but I've decided to destroy its rarity and turn it into a track car. Anyways I also have a M111 2.3L 16V engine with auto transmission that are laying in the garage. I've thought about selling the transmission and focusing on building the engine as later will put in a manual transmission. I have never modified an engine besides putting a cold air intake, and would be really interested in making this a long term project. I would like some input, if someone has done something similar before. I've read someone turbo-ing this engine before, however for the w202 application not w201.

YES THERE ARE A FEW OPTIONS FOR YOU TO MAKE A TRACK CAR OUT OF THE 201 CHASSIS WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? I HAVE USED AND MODIFIED A 190 2.316V FOR TRACK PURPOSES. I LOVE IT AND MAKING THAT M111 MOTOR TURBO IS A VERY REAL POSSIBILITY. DID THIS MOTOR START OUT AS THE SUPERCHARGED VARIANT OR WAS IT THE N/A VERSION. SUPERCHARGED VARIANT IS THE ONE TO START WITH SINCE IT HAS A BOTTOM END THAT WILL HANDLE BOOST PRESSURES.

I'm in Tampa Bay Area, FL. The thing is the 190E is a 2.6 sportline, not a 2.3-16v. The engine I have is without supercharger from factory, however I think both engines are identical since the supercharger only puts 40-50hp more

EXTERNALLY ENGINES LOOK THE SAME BUT INTERNALLY THE SUPERCHARGED ENGINES RECEIVED DIFFERENT RODS AND PISTONS AND CAN BE BOOSTED TO HIGHER PSI LEVELS WHICH WILL GIVE YOU MORE HORSEPOWER IN THE END. STARTING WITH THE N/A ENGINE YOU WONT BE ABLE TO SAFELY BOOST HIGHER PRESSURES DUE TO THE INTERNALS WERE NOT MADE FOR PRESSURE AND PISTONS WILL HAVE A HIGHER COMPRESSION RATIO. THERE ARE POLY BUSHINGS KITS AVAILABLE FOR ALL THE REAR SUSPENSION ARMS AND FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS. GROUND CONTROL DOES MAKE COILOVERS WHICH IF BUDGET ALLOWS IS THE WAY TO GO. REAR SWAY BAR CAN BE CHANGED OUT WITH EVO2 IF YOU CAN FIND ONE. IF YOU PUT THE 4 CYLINDER IN THE STOCK FRONT BAR SHOULD BE PLENTY.

I was thinking actually starting with the engine itself, have it apart and take it to the machine shop to enlarge the cylinders adding 200 more cubics so it becomes 2.5l then going with the turbo. I was wondering if anyone has gone that route maybe could give out exact parts needed

and as far as suspension goes for a beginners I have scored a really nice deal on original amg springs for the 190E along with sachs shocks. I'm going to try that. I found thru the forums about a guy under the name of ake that is shipping parts from thailand, so the control arms will be thru him most likely. I want to build the engine first test it on the stand to make sure it works, then find a 5 or 6 speed getrag transmission to handle the power and after that thinking about suspension and stopping power. Would it be a good idea to put in an LSD from an 86 190e 2.3 16v or perhaps there's a better differential for this car?

16V DIFF IS A GOOD IDEA SOON I WILL HAVE A WAVETRAC SOLUTION FOR LSD YOU CAN BOLT UP TO YOUR EXISTING RING GEAR IT IS IN THE WORKS PRICING STILL NOT KNOWN THOUGH BUT IT WILL BE BETTER THAN THE CLUTCH STYLE WHICH GIVES A 30% LOCK UP THIS IS A WORM GEAR TYPE LSD WHICH CAN DELIVER 100% LOCK UP IF NEEDED AND BE FULLY PROGRESSIVE AS THE WHEEL SLIPS IT WILL SEND THE POWER TO THE WHEEL WITH GRIP.

IF YOU BUY A 16V DIFF YES IT SHOULD BE GONE THROUGH IF YOU BUY THE WAVETRAC DIFF THE CENTER SECTION WILL BE NEW AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PRESS ON NEW SIDE BEARINGS AND REPLACE THE SIDE SEALS IN THE DIFF BUT OTHER THAN THAT IF YOU DRIVE THE CAR AND DIFF SOUNDS FINE AND WORKS THEN THE OTHER PARTS IN THE DIFF SHOULD BE FINE TO ACCEPT THE WAVETRAC LSD.

Used factory clutch-type LSD's almost always have worn-out clutches, and replacing the clutch pack is not cheap (and not easy). But, it will be quite a bit cheaper than a new WaveTrac, if/when one becomes available.

Also, the 190E-16 LSD Only fits 3.27 gears, and the 190E 2.6 only had 3.27 gears through 1991 model year. If your car is 92-93 model year, it has 2.87 gears, and the 190E-16 LSD won't fit.

The 190E diff is 185mm and at the moment I don't believe WaveTrac will be releasing one in the near future... and if they do have one on the way, we don't know what gear ratios it will fit.

I would check out 190rev. they mod 190s all the time. FYI there was never a SC 16v from the factory. Also don't waste your time with springs and shocks/struts for track use. Ground control, among others, make a coil over kit for the 190e's.

I would think very carefully before converting to coilovers on the 201 (or 124) chassis. There is little advantage besides easy ride height adjustability, and there is significant risk involved because the coilovers put the full weight of the car on the strut tower, which was NOT designed to support that load. There are plenty of options for conventional race suspensions. YMMV, etc.

My 190 track car is for sale

Ibuilt and drove mine from Watkins Glen and south to PBIR and it runs quite quickly as the motor is a 354" small block Ford, tranny is a Tremec TKO3550. The front springs are 500SL with a 1.5 coils cut off and the rears are 124 station wagon with 1.5 coils cut. Rear shocks are Carrera adj, fronts are made from old Sachs struts, gutted and cutoff above the knuckle. Then new threaded tubes were welded in, 1.5" shorter and have dble adj. Konis inside. The rear end has a Ford T'bird IRS diff with 3.55 gears and a torsen diff. It also has rack and pinion steering, big brakes and lots more....

More may be seen on RACERCONNECT.com and site #1165. It is now for sale because I'm building a whole new car, and if not sold, may part it out. I am located in Charlotte, NC
