for sale 1991 Mercedes 190e – excellent condition, one owner, 127,000 miles
Inherited my grandfather’s 1991 Mercedes Benz 190e sedan. The 190e has been in storage since my grandfather took ill over three years ago. It’s a great car that my brother and I have ridden in our entire lives because he would pick us up from grade school. (he would never let us eat in it.)
He was from Germany and loved his Mercedes automobiles. He purchased this car as his retirement gift to self and maintained it like only a retired German would. My grandparents drove in it to Florida every year through 2005 – when my grandmother got a new BMW.
My grandfather stopped driving in 2010. We put the car in storage properly – additive in the gas tank, cloth tarp car cover, windows opened for air circulation, battery disconnected, car was started every three-four weeks and brought up to operating temperature.
Got my license a few months ago and brought the car out of storage in April. Changed the oil, installed a battery and an aircleaner, filled it up with premium, and installed a CD/iPod compatible stereo.
Unfortunately, I am too tall for this car. My head hits the sunroof regardless of how I position the seat.
THE GOOD:
one owner - well-maintained by elderly German émigré
A/C converted to R134a in 2007
2.6 straight six/automatic with 127,000 miles
Sunroof – never used (the wind made it difficult for him to hear)
excellent cosmetics
excellent interior (he even bought body-color expensive floormats)
senior driven (bought it when he was 64, picked it up as a European delivery, and my grandparents drove it on the Autobahn for a month in 1991)
never crashed
stored for three years (has been driven for approx two tanks of gas since being brought out of storage)
mostly suburban driving and long spring/summer road trips
top half rebuilt at approx 115,000 in 2007 (head gasket was leaking)
exhaust system prior to storage (stickers still on it)
recent tires (he purchased them at the Mercedes dealership)
new battery in spring 2014
air cleaner in spring 2014
new stereo in spring 2014
oil change in spring 2014
THE BAD:
Needs a tune up – been sitting for three years.
a/c blows hot – needs a recharge (converted to R134a in 2007) worked when stored.
hoses should be changed soon ( based on age per our mechanic)
system flush needed (based on age per our mechanic)
trans fluid should be changed (based on age per our mechanic)
Needs a pneumatic tube to hold up hood
passenger electric headrest does not work
might need a U joint replaced
T-handle broke on the grille (have replacement)
Electric antenna does not work
Price negotiable, can send pictures upon request
I love this car, but I have to sell it. I figured someone on here will love it as much as I do!
