The 190E 2.3-16: The Best Mercedes of the '80s

I got mine in the beginning of the week and it runs like a champ! They definitely don't make em like this anymore. I have a feeling they will continue to increase in popularity as the number of these cars in any sort of decent shape continues to dwindle. Good news for mwah

2018 E300 Luxury - P3 and more
I had one for awhile. Absolutely fun to drive. The engine & transmission were solid. Interior build quality left much to be desired. I still remember wedging paper underneath the air vents to keep them pointed at me. Switchgear felt cheap.

Fun story: The car was my father's before I had it. We were out of town, car was in the shop for relatively routine maintenance. We get a call from the dealership. The engine blew. They didn't elaborate on what happened, but assured us a brand-new engine from Mercedes would be installed when it arrived from Germany at no expense to us. IIRC the car only had about 20-30k at the time.

We know darn well someone must have taken the car up on the interstate and missed a shift or something similar, as we were always throwing the car around ourselves. At any rate, free engine, can't complain too much.

Personally, my fav. Merc from the 80s were the 560SELs and 560SEC. Still after 30 years they look great and still have a presence. One of the dealerships here had one on the sales floor inside, $16k asking. I almost bought it.

Drove an arctic white one right out of the dealer showroom. Had to sell it many years later when the third kid was about to be born. Really loved that car. I keep an eye out on CL for them from time to time and will probably end up with one pretty soon though I'm running out of parking space.

Yes, my confusion on the thread title... I had a 2.6, not the 2.3
Just saw a 2.3 on Craigslist for $1800... very tempting.
