Just a girl tryin'a fix her benz
Hi there! My name is Alisa
I have a 1985 190e 2.0 that is parked. Problems with the head gasket.
This is my first car and my first project.
I have a 5 speed transmission and a motor from a ??? Mercedes-Benz (looks like a 190e.) The car it came out of has been mostly stripped, including badging. I have tried searching VINs and codes but have had no luck. Basically, I can't be 100% sure on which model it is.
First things first, what are my best options in figuring out what the motor is?
Thanks for the help in advance!!

inside the engine bay, on a plate stamped on the lip in front of the radiator are a series of codes, use this guide to help translate the codes, they will tell you what the vehicle was when it was manufactured.
PRODUCTION NUMBER – ANNUAL CODE (example 1 = 1991)
MODEL DESIGNATION (TYPE|MODS|DRIVESIDE|AUTO/MANUAL)
UNSURE WHAT LINE 3 IS
TRIM CODE
ENGINE VARIANT CODE
SPACE
ORIGINAL FACTORY COLOR CODES
Offset to the right, 3 digit numbers are all options that were included at factory

If you're wondering how to tell what exactly the engine is of the car you're pulling parts from, you can look at the stamp on the engine block
