consequence of removing steering box?

I'm working on replacing all my fuel hardlines on my 2.3 8v. Unfortunately Mercedes have routed feed- and returnline behind the steering box. I have already loosen everything so i'm just going to cut the old ones and feed the new ones in instead of jerking the old ones out.
But now to my concern, is there any consequences regarding removing the steering box and letting it rest on the pitarm while being connected to the steering shaft? It would help when aligning the new lines and putting the rubber holders back. Right now i have loosen all the bolts for the steering box and moved the steering box out towards the engine but it only giving med so much room.
Thanks
