how do I add r134a?
My A/C compressor keeps shutting down. Used to do it at 90 to 95 degrees centigrade, now it happens much sooner. Some good ideas in my earlier post, but I'm now thinking that maybe I'm low on r134a. I did have an r12 to r134a conversion done last year, and in reviewing the shop ticket, I saw where there was a leak at an expansion valve. They added some sort of sealer and some dye to check for leaks and said if the leak didn't stop, I'd have to replace the expansion valve ($200 or so). I'm thinking this thing is low on r134a. I don't want to invest $200 in the A/C because I may not keep the car. I know I can buy cans of r134a at Walmart. But, how do I add it to the system, and how do I know when the system is full? Perhaps a pressure gauge on the high side valve??
