86 190e 2.3 Automatic - questions

Hi MBWorld,

I am a new owner and I am enjoying this car for a month now, however there are a few questions on my mind about this car.

1.)Is it normal for the Auxilliary fan to come on as soon as you turn the ign key to On without starting the engine? mine is constanlty on.

2.)What do you guys get for fuel milage on your automatic 190 e's 2.3?

3.)When I start the car in the morning the rpm guage fluctuates back and fourth to about 1000 then back to 600. Is this normal?

4.)When I start the car, there seems to be a blower that also comes on even with all my control switches set to off & the only way to get rid off it is to press the 0 button. Is this normal?

5.)Are the front seats interchangeable? cause the drivers side has collapsed.I looked and seems like it is doable by just changing the buttom part. Has any one done this?

6.) Does anyone have a spare owners manual for sale?

Thank you in advance.

See sig.
I'll only answer what I can
1. No
3. It shouldn't do that. It'll stay around 1000 until the temp increases a bit, then it should go to the normal idle speed
4. Yes

1.)Is it normal for the Auxilliary fan to come on as soon as you turn the ign key to On without starting the engine? mine is constanlty on.

Neither the main fan, attached to the serpentine belt, or the auxillary fan in front of the condensor, should be running all the time. You probably have a temp sensor failure.

2.)What do you guys get for fuel milage on your automatic 190 e's 2.3?

Mileage depends on driving styles and type of driving, but the average for the 2.3L should be in the low to mid 20's per gallon.

3.)When I start the car in the morning the rpm guage fluctuates back and fourth to about 1000 then back to 600. Is this normal?

Initially on cold start it might rev a little higher for a very brief time, but it shouldn't be swinging.

4.)When I start the car, there seems to be a blower that also comes on even with all my control switches set to off & the only way to get rid off it is to press the 0 button. Is this normal?

If the blower noise you'e hearing is coming from near the glove box, then it's normal, since there is a small fan behind the glovebox, attached by a tube to the ambient temperature sensor located behind the small grill near the sun visors. The fan is used to circulate air near the sensor to get accurate readings of the ambient inside temperature for the climate control system.

5.)Are the front seats interchangeable? cause the drivers side has collapsed.I looked and seems like it is doable by just changing the buttom part. Has any one done this?

Yes, the seat bottoms are interchangeable, however the seatbacks are not. You remove the seat, tracks and all, by the 4 bolts that hold it to the floor and by unplugging the seat belt buzzer sensor wire. If you have power seats, it will weigh more.

6.) Does anyone have a spare owners manual for sale?

Owners Manuals can be ordered through MBUSA or your dealership and they are frequently on sale on Ebay.
