Ive seen a lot of people switch to the power rack. Im having issues with my setup. Everything was great till i lowered car, now my rack has huge angle and hitting lower control arms, my issue is rack clearance from motor clearance. I cant really stick the rack much higher. I started with a w210 rack, didnt like it, then tried to create a front steer setup, again didnt like it. Ended up with a nissan z rack. Alot of the rack swap guys never finish there project cars and im wondering if this is a reason why

After days of research ive yet to find anyone completely show the swap or even be successful, problem is these a arms... looks like ill need to fabricate a new lateral link and remove rear.
So i got annoyed with a couple designs and figured be easier to just put something in thats done. So got new parts ordered and figured i would redo all drivetrain while I am under car.
Shorter subframe means shortening the rack and pinion, so here we go
One corvette rack 97-05
This seal was inside the rack it was a pain to knock out, but since ill be welding on the housing all seals need to be removed.
Ill need to cut this section off and re-weld it on 3” shorter.
plan is to just shorten one end that way nothing is spliced. As for the rack ill put one side on lathe and turn it 3” shorter. Ill get this done tomorrow.
Frame rail kits are extremely expensive for this suspension. So ill fabricate a jig and make my own front. So i trimmed a front frame rail and made a wood jig to start. When i get to the shop on wed or thurs ill put it on the plasma table and cut them out.
ill need to make a fixture jig from the frame rails, then jig up a bracket. Really shouldnt be that hard, and it will save me $1000.00 from buying someones laser cut rails. Honestly I have debated about spending that, but just couldn’t over a piece of laser cut sheet metal, specially when i have the tools to do it myself. Thats going to be Wednesdays project.
I have procrastinated past 3 weeks on doing the brackets. Just the work and money making work have been interfering. This is where I am at now.
I didn't feel like sitting at computer and drawing it up in solid works just for the plasma table to make a mess out of the edges. So i used hand tools and I am super happy with the product. Next I need to make a jig and weld up the mounts. Hopefully i get this done next week.
Pulled the poly block out as with the suspension change my motor location is going to move I might have to cut firewall to fit the torque tube. Time will tell as soon as i finish my suspension mounts.
So i dropped the spindles and mount brackets off at a buddies. Told him just make them easier to clean. This is what i got back.
I think I'm going to have him do the rest of the suspension
Instead of sleep, I decided to finish the jig to make the front suspension brackets. I have been lagging on making these as it is a critical component That can make or break my suspension swap.
When I'm feeling lazy and want progress done no matter how slow i just get little things done. This was last weeks project.
These went from nasty oxided aluminum to beautiful polish. Idk what kind of aluminum chevy uses, but it polishes well.
Wide stance, so im almost done with suspension front suspension swap. I measured everything and I believe it will all fit nicely one im welded in.
