190E 2.3-16 only available in 86-87?

Just saw an ad and would like to confirm with you experts whether 2.3-16 only produced in '86-87. I have seen other members brought up the 'sportsline' model, is it same as the 2.3-16 mentioned here? Also, is it true that all 2.3-16 comes in champagne/black? I've been searching around and seems like all of them comes with that color scheme.

Lastly, does 5-speed comes with only 2.3-16?

Thanks!

Mercedes Benz set 11 speed and endurance records with a slightly modified 1985 Euro version. 159 mph average for 50,000 kilometers. Durable and fast. Rare factory rocket; one of about 1200 officially imported to the United States in ?86 and 87. Factory Cosworth 16 valve DOHC head, header, self-leveling suspension, leather, all the good stuff. This is one of about 400 with an automatic.

Technically the 2.3-15 was available as a production road car from Sept 1983 to the early part of 1988. The first appearance in the US was in 1986 and the car was featured in Car & Driver's March 1986 issue. The 2 year gap in introduction and appearance in the US was the result of production delays, primarily at Cosworth. The 2.3-16 was only availabe in two factory colors, smoke silver (rauchsilber 702) and blue black metallics (blauschwarz 199). The reason was that the process of color matching the plastic bodykit panels was expensive and technically challenging, therefore it was only used in those two colors.

With the introduction of the 2.5-16 in mid 1988, sales of the 16 valves ceased in North America. Mercedes took over production of the Cosworth designed head. The exterior color choices were expanded to include almandine red and astral silver when production of the colored panels became cost effective.

BTW, the Nardo record breaking run was in the summer of 1983, so how they used an 1985 car would be interesting.

The 16 valve manual transmission is a Getrag unit, with the "dog leg" 1st gear position adopted from racing transmissions (first gear seldom used in racing). Other W201's had 5 speed manual transmissions, but with the traditional shift pattern. The 2.3-16 valve cars had the ASD (mechanical limited slip) differential.
