Key Chime?

When I shut off the motor and have the headlights on, there is a warning if I open the driver's door. Is there one if you leave your keys in the ignition but shut off the motor and open the driver's door?

Why don't you try it and see?

My W208 does that... if the lights are on, it starts complaining... if the key is in the ignition, it does the same with a message on the console: "REMOVE KEY!"

Annoying, but useful...

Well, the reason I asked the question is because mine W201 does NOT have any sound when the door is opened but the key is in the ignition. I wanted to know if that was normal for that series.

Yes, the seat belt alarm relay should sound when you open the door and have the key in the ignition, but it will cease after a brief period. It is the same sound as when you leave the lights on when opening the door, or start the car without fastening the driver's seat belt.

That might explain why I get no sound for the seat belt warning too. Hmmm.

The seatbelt alarm relay is a typical old age failure item. It's a small metal box located behind the plastic panel on the left side footwell. The buzzer grows weaker over time, until it dies.
