Could be a stroker engine. Bekkers in the US sells a stroker kit that converts a 2.3-16 to 2.6-16

What's exactly a stroker engine? Parts to increase engine capacity?

Yes. Called a "stroker" kit since the bore of the engine cylinder remains the same, but the stroke of the piston is increased to up displacement. Pistons, connecting rods, bearing and sometimes crankshafts are replaced.

We used to have a 2.3-16 wich was bored out, other pistons, other connection rods, racecamshaft and mosselman turbokit. it was about 2.7-2.8 liters.

That's where I found the car. Take a look! Wish I could get the stroke kit but apparently not available anymore.
