I just bought a 1991 190e 2.3 8v. Why does it have only 1 fuel pump? My 1992 1992 2.3 8v has two pumps. My 1993 190e 2.6 has 2 pumps.
Thoughts anyone??

I have seen this question pop up in forums, and honestly, now I do not know the answer. I know MB used single pumps for really early '80's cars but switched to a double pump set-up when they introduced the 2.6L in the late 80's (or earlier) maybe when they realize a fuel pump is a key component and they really want a better set up.
Strange that your late model car still has a single pump. And clearly it came out of the factory that way because the harness is for a single pump.

I also have a 1991 190E 2.3 8v and my car just has the 1 fuel pump. My car runs like an angel. What the reasoning was for going with 2 fuel pumps rather than just the 1 fuel pump for the later cars, idk. I guess it's called German engineering nitty gritty logic which in my personal experience can be pretty unique. Next time I talk to my friend at the MB Classic Center I'll try and remember to ask him if he knows what that reasoning might be.
Yea weird......
Thanks for the responses. The pressures were in spec, 5.5 bar system and 5.1 differential. I didn't do the volume test yet.
