Driver Door Lock Pins Broke inside Housing

After all these years the driver’s door lock broke on my 1993 190E. The key turns both ways without any resistance so I assumed the shaft to the lock controller inside the door must have had its fins (tabs) break off. After ordering the small repair parts (barrel with shaft) from eBay, I removed the lock to find the break was actually inside the main housing. The eBay parts don’t appear they would fit despite several vendors selling them for that purpose. The shaft doesn’t exactly match up inside the housing where the two small breaks are. I took it to a locksmith who agreed saying the replacement shaft didn’t appear able to fit anything in the larger housing where the breaks were. The other key locks and the system work fine and I will likely switch the lock with the passenger side or perhaps add a remote control as mentioned in another recent thread.

Has anyone else come across a fix? The repair parts I bought don’t appear to be what’s needed in this case or maybe I just need to remove the barrel housing to have a look to see if it’ll fit after all? Have searched fixes quite a bit on the internet but couldn’t find any videos or experiences with locks that looked like these.

The good lock, the broken one next to it looking inside the barrel where the breaks are and next to that is the original (with springs) and the new parts ordered as a fix from an eBay vendor.

I don't know what's available parts wise anymore for this situation since so many W201 parts are now NLA. I would suggest that you contact the MB Classic Center to see if they still have these parts or if they can recommend where you might find them. You might also try Adsitgo. They're supposed to have hard to find MB parts. They advertise in the MBCA publication, "The Star". It also might be a case that aftermarket parts don't work for this particular situation because they don't properly fit your car..
