Bumper Re Paint Refinish?

Anyone have any experience repairing or refinishing the rubber part of the front or rear bumper?

Thanks,

Dave

Hey Dave,

how bad is your bumper? Mine was just oxidized, just washed it real good and used a “back to black” product.was pretty happy after a couple coats of it. I even used it on my door handles and my car is looking a little refreshed.

also out of curiosity, what color is your car and how does the roof and rear window trim look?

idk if mine is meant to be grey or if I could use this product on those as well. I think the darker scheme will look better with my midnight blue

Try the "back to black" product that Betterdaze recommended first. If that's not satisfactory then paint it. Betterdaze, you want to use the "back to black" product on your roof and window trim and on all the rubber trim on your car. I know from personal experience that the all black trim looks great with the midnight blue paint.

Looks like the coating has been chipped. Is that a clear coat?

what is the process to refinish?

thoughts?

I'd recommend SEM Trim black
https://semproducts.com/product/trim-black/black
I did the front impact strip on my blue 190E with it, as well as the wiper trims and door handles. Looks OEM and lays down niely.

Did you have to strip the bumper first?

So in my case, it was the original plastic, so no stripping was required. I just used some wax and grease remover first called Prep All to get the surface nice and clean
Amazon Amazon
In your case though, I would definitely sand it down, then treat it w/ the Prep All, then a couple coats of SEM. That should have it looking good

The black, white and midnight blue colored W201's were part of the last generation of MB's to NOT be clear coated. I was told this by the MB dealer where I bought my car.
