Ticking noise under dasg
Hi, i have a small black box under the dash drivers side. says “A’Pexi” on it. It makes a constant ticking noise and drains my battery unless i disconnect it. Anyone know whatbit is and why it’s ticking and how to fix? Pic and video attached. Thanks heaps

Apexi makes Electronic Fuel injection controller parts. Would not work on a W201. What is your car? If it is a 190E, was it converted to EFI?

Yeah it’s not EFI. Someone suggested on reddit that it’s an alarm. Where I live they are compulsory so that would make sense. The ticking is 100% coming from something inside that box when the car is completely off key out of ignition. I have no idea how it’s been spliced it or how to splice it out so looks like an expensive trip to an auto sparky

Yes it looked like a keyless remote system really but that is the wrong place to mount that so it must have been an alarm.
My second car had a full on alarm system with rock sensors, door lock sensors, horn, etc ,etc. Everything is disconnected now.
Who needs an alarm on a standard W201 these days. Maybe for a 16V.

It may be hooked to one or more of the door/trunk actuators so you may need to be careful not to disable the actuator. What happens if you just disconnect the unit's power/ground?
Does the central locking still work with the power to the unit being disconnected?
