1993 190E 2.3 8V Sun Visor Lighting / Outside Temperature Guage Problems

Just purchased this 190E. My passenger side sun visor lights are not working. It's not the bulbs or a fuse. I checked with the Mercedes dealer parts department and the price they want is staggering. I was told that the vsor is sold complete only and that a switch in the unit is faulty. Also my guage for the outside temperature is not showing any script, just a lit screen with blacked out areas. Can anyone help with some suggestions on these issues?
Any help is appreciated.

Ebay. as a tip, try using this search parameter:

(W201, 190E, 190) sunvisor
(W201, 190E, 190) Temperature LCD (search title and listings)

I had a blacked out temp gauge on the 190, the dealer told me i would need to replace the whole instrument cluster and gave me the price. It was a couple hundred dollars, so I just said screw it and watch the weather channel before heading out.

Most dealership repair deptartments treat W201 owners as "Time to Upgrade" customers.

The temp gauge LCD is replaceable, but you do have to remove the instrument cluster (half hour procedure) to remove it. The only concern is to get the proper display, as the early ones had a two wire connector, while later models sported 3 wires, the additional wire gathering speed information. The temp display is to warn drivers of potential ice conditions on the road, which is why the actual sensor is located behind the front license plate holder.
