I cannot find an aftermarket antenna that will plug in its place

is it a proprietary antenna design? do i have to buy a replacement from mercedes? or where can I get one that will work?

Hirschman was the OEM supplier, but there are at least two different Hirschman models used over the production run of the W201 and W124. The "universal" Hirschman requires some surgery on the wire harness to hook up.

Ii would stick with an OEM antenna. My 87 came with a universal type and I hated it. I ended up getting a used W124 antenna for $75

the 1993 has its thierd antenna setup, i think its mercedes prop. apparently the odler 190Es dont have this.

i could not find a replacement at the bone yard, and from MB this thing was like 200$!

ended up ripping out the old unit, getting an aftermarket antenna, keeping the amp and doing some wire splicing.

it works!

I believe there were three power antennas for the W201s. The later W201s having two different ones (for w201s w/carphone or w201s without).

One used one got bought was from a later model and had the cellphone antenna attachment as well. The only feature I lost was the ability to alter the height of the mast.

Ebay has universal Hirschman antennas. They cost cheap - $30, work, and they supposedly fit perfect with some cable work as mentioned before.
