Multiply the MSRP by .930 and that will come pretty close to the invoice price. Holdbacks are generally in the 3.5-5% range...specifically I have no idea on specific models.

GL 320 CDI - Invoice (no options) $48732
Keep in mind with options the price rises quickly!

Any idea how much I can negotiate an accessory? For example the list price on the tow hitch is $500. Any room for negotiation here?

The tow hitch is an option on the option list...if selected and included in the final order, you can negotiate the final delivery price overall. If you buy the accessory as after market at the dealer it will cost more and price negotiation is maybe 10% or so with the parts department.

Attached is an actual dealer invoice. Almost all MB prices can be multiplied by .93 to get the invoice price. Of course true dealer invoice is even less than that but I've never gotten that figure before.

If its not legible let me know and I'll try again.

EDIT:
Its not readable. NevadaJack can you fix up the one I emailed to you and repost here? Thanks.

Won't be easy...will have to rescan I think at higher DPI. Let me play with it and see if I can bring it up some.

Thanks NJ for the help.

FYI, IRG is the advertising or floor plan for this particular dealer. Ranges from 300-750 per dealership.

It will be interesting to see what #'s people are getting. I've been all over the board when contacting over 10 dealers in 5 states.

Is 500 over invoice a good starting point for negotiating the price?

Yes. Of course lower is even better. You'll be lucky to get 500 though. Its a great vehicle with alot of good reviews and awards lately.

When I got my 99 ML320 in late 98, people were offering to buy my vehicle at a premium of over $2K over MSRP. It was the Motor Trend SUV of the year. Then MB went down hill from there and I got hammered on the resale. I wouldn't get too excited about the initial reviews as it takes a couple of model years to play out. So far, I am pleased with what I have read/seen.

What model?

When talking discounts on the GL you have to cite the model being discussed. The GL450 is plentiful on dealers lots, many with the bare minimum of options which dealers are giving high discounts. An ordered GL450 is easier to get allocations for and will also be discounted liberally.

However, the GL320CDI is not on the dealers lots and allocations for a custom build are into the May-June build dates. Most dealers will be very tight with their discounts on the diesel right now because if they have one not spoken for and available on the lot it can be sold at something near MSRP.

320 cdi order

I have ordered, for March Delivery, the 320 cdi.
I received almost $ 2000 off the sticker price. It took some dealing with several of the staff to arrive at that discount.

When I tried to negotiate with the BMW dealership for a new X-5, full retail without any discount was their statement.

My MSRP was $71600 and my price was $500 over invoice (plus taxes, lic, etc) at $67142. I have since added a few items which will raise the MSRP but my deal is at $500 over invoice. This is a special price and is not the norm for an ordered 320CDI. Local dealer wanted sticker! Mid May delivery.

NavadaJack, are the running boards on your NetStar order the ones that came on the PE GL? cause i'm using your part number.

Thanks!

Yes and that was confirmed by the Distribution center of MBUSA in Vance, as well as a email from MBUSA to me directly. If you plan on Mud Flaps, the front ones will not fit if you get these running boards. The rear ones are not affected.

I recently ordered a 320 CDI and got about $1100 over invoice. My dealer was willing to negotiate a little more for the 450GL and less so for the CDI. I wasnt going to argue over a couple hundred dollars, esp because I know i will get good service from this particular dealer and they have treated me good in the past. They do get at least a 3% holdback to the dealer. They are willing to negotiate more if they know they will be getting your service and warranty work as well.
