Face it, to get you to part with your money, they need to constantly improve and change with each model year. If you waited and got a 2009, then you'd be wishing you had waited even more and gotten the all-new 2010 model (which, no doubt, will cost more as well). There's always going to be something newer and better. Just enjoy what you got. I know I am.

the only thing are minor changes on the command such as time to destination on the bottom level when in route, as well as different front and rear defrost buttons...other than that that's it...but im really unhappy about the amg sport package...****

The COMAND is entirely different. Its based off the S/CL/C classes. Its HDD based now, has integrated bluetooth, and supports DVD-A. You might even be able to email the directions to the car, I haven't yet tried this in my SL, it works well in my CL.
The changes are very different.

And the count-down to the inevitable question of "whether the new COMANDs can be retro-fitted into prior year cars" starts in three, two...

Hey! Why no BlueTec in Washington and Oregon??? Isn't it clean enough for the old Hippies ???
I need the Bird's Eye View for NAV !
I don't like the new AMG wheel style... looks too much like on copy kat cars...
I like the old AMG twin 5-spoke design... the one that BMW copied and the Scion Tc copied!

The new NAV system is much better, in fact its eons ahead of the old POS DVD based system thats used in the 2004-2008 models. I haven't yet tried the iPod in my SL, but once I do I will fill you guys in.
All I have to say is that the sound, ease of use, and the sheer fact that its HDD based makes the entire experience that much better. Plus there is 4GB of space for you to rip music to and it has Gracenote.
The NAV is amazing, the clarity of the screen is on par with the S class, and the whole UI is very intutive, plus there is no COMAND controller as in the S/CL/C classes. I love the COMAND controller since its much easier to control things, but this new system certainly on par with Acura/Honda.

They adopted California's emissions standards.

Take a look in that link to see what the NAV looks like. The new NAV is very very easy to use.

And look... They have to give the '09s some special features if they hope to sell many '09s. Othjerwise people will just wait for the next gen. ...and...given the implementation of new features on the 211 for most of the 211's model run, wouldn't you want your car to run perfectly with all electronics bug free? Let them experiment on someone else. The stuff in the 07s/08s is perfect.

Yeah 2009 is the last year of the W211. Free AMG package, free 4 matic. Jst pay for PI or PII packages plus things like pano roof etc...
Just for that I will trade my E320 Bluetec in for an 09 with the new COMAND. I love the COMAND in my SL, simply amazing and on par with my CL63.
