Black Series Vs. Aston Martin DB9

I'm having a tough time deciding between the DB9 and the black series. Both are brilliant cars, and I don't know what to do. I love the beauty and elegance of the Aston yet I love the performance of the black series. Please help me. What are the pros and cons of each?

Believe me, I would if I had sufficient funds, but for right now I can only afford one. Please I am so torn between the two.

If you have a daily driver to go to work , shop for food , etc then deff go with a Black series it looks not any less exotic in person than aston , and if you want as a daily driver then i'd say go for aston however go see both in person 1st , clk looks like a much more fun , agressive hardcore car while Aston looks more boring but very elegant it depends on a person.

I disagree - the AM is not nearly the daily driver that the BS is....first and foremost becasue of the reliability. The AS also has clutch problems that are vy expensive to fix. The BS is a much better performance wise as well and a lot more fun to drive. The only thing the AM has thats better is the exhaust note.

get them both used.

AM is a very disapointing car compared to a BS. now if it was being compared to a softer merc (CL,SL) than it would be in the running IMO>

Obviously posting the question on this forum will elicit a pro CLK63 BS response which suggests that you want affirmation IF you decide on the Black. So if 100% of the board says you should buy the Black would you? The AM is not really in the same league handling wise. I think you'd be better off with the AM DB9. Buyers that seek the Black know what they want. You don't.

I think one major factor is how much you intend to drive it. The BS will go for many miles, and those will largely be trouble free. If you just want to look at it, get the Aston.
I can't see the driving experience as being comparable. AS

Folks, imagine how good the AM exhaust must sound if it's better than the Black Series?

Not sure that I agree LZH but there's room to argue.

If you want to compare a BS to an Aston Martin it would have to be the DBS. A DB9 is more like a high speed cruiser, very good looking and luxurious. In comparison the BS is raw but more involving to drive. If you are truly into performance, you shouldn't have a "tough" time deciding between the two. They were built with different philosophies in mind. If I would have asked my wife to decide for me, she would have chosen the DB9.

Have never driven the Black series....

But after driving the DB9 I was very happy to get back in my CLS55. Looks to kill but build quality, ride and performance were just mediocre.

A buddy of mine is an AM guy, has an AMV8, DBS and an Vanquish S - he traded his DB9 in for the DBS. I spent lots of time in the DB9 and I can tell you firsthand it's V12 sounds totally different and much better than the BS V8. The Vanquish S has the best exhaust note of any street car I have ever heard.

Is a DB9 or Vanquish exhaust that much better than a BS? How would you compare a stock DB9 or Vanquish exhaust sound versus a fully modded Evosport performance package BS??? Performance is a big factor of mine but looks and exhaust sound is just as important.

I actually bought a slightly used Vanquish S earlier this year, well kind of bought it...dealer tried selling me a car that could not be plated in the states, long story...had to terminate the deal before taking delivery, but on with my story.

Having driven both cars I would never put them into the same category. Vanquish S is the only AM that is nearly as sporty as the BS, but still does not have the raw track ready feeling of the BS. The BS seats are better than the Vanquish. Although the Vanquish S is a little lighter than the BS the Vanquish feels heavier. Vanquish S did sound nice, actually sounded more aggresive than the BS on idle and low RPM driving, but during full throttle the BS sounds much nicer, louder and menacing.

I wont be doing many if any track days, so just normal street driving. Which is better for me?

Only you can answer that question. Both cars have pros and cons, I feel the Black Series is more of a drivers car and more fun to drive.

You can compare the specs and performance numbers all day long, but the best gauge to determine how well a car suits you is to actually drive it. Climb behind the wheel of both and see for yourself.

Then I'd say go for the AM. For just street driving the BS is fine but the ride is a bit harsh. The AM is more of a luxo cruiser GT car. But as stated above, the only way to know is to drive both.

I concur. The idling sound is simply symphony.

The Aston has the back seat, plus the name, and the much nicer interior. It would gather more attention and hold it's value longer. But personally, I'd chose the Black.

There's nothing special about the BS, it now just like any Mercedes. I remember when the 65 engine series came out, Mercedes owners thought that it gonna be one of those collector cars. Now,no one even want buy it even as dirt cheap. Aston is in a totally different car class.

First of all what year AM DB9 are you considering. I have never had the chance to drive the BS, but i drove a 2005 DB 9 in Newport beach a couple of weeks ago. To tell you the truth i found the ride to be very harsh. While changing lanes as i was going over those plastic lane deviders caps on the ground i could feel each one of them. No doubt that the car sounds amazing. Also i was not too happy with the padle gear box. Keep in mind this is the 2005 i am talking about. My understanding is that the 2009 has a brand new gear box that is suppose to be much improved also the suspension is new and the engine makes an extra 20 hp for a total of 470hp. When me and my friend test drove the car there was no sales man that perticular day so the general manager took us out. According to him the 2009 vantage is a lot more fun to drive because it is a lighter car that also comes with a manual gear box and now it makes 420 hp. The Vantage was actually the car of his choice. He drove one as a daily driver. If you ask me go with the BS you cant go wrong.
