Side mirror auto-adjust when reversing
My 2009 E350 is my third E-class, having owned a 2003 and 2006. One feature I found quite useful on the two previous cars was the ability to set the right side mirror to adjust automatically for viewing the RR wheel when reversing, so as to avoid hitting curbs. Although the setting procedure is described in the 2009 owner's manual, I find I'm unable to get it to set. I called the dealership, and was told that this feature has been "decontented". I am also a bit "decontented" to find this handy feature gone. Is there any way to restore it?

Dealer told me they could do it. Haven't done it. To be honest, had it on my Bimmers and never did really like it. I think I just got so used to parallel parking the old fashioned way. And no curb rash! Yet.
I see you have a 993, too. Which version?

Ya, especially so cal dealers. They all look at me like WTF when I'm there because I know too much. Lol, when I was there last time with my S/A writing up the order, this tech I know walks in the booth and is like "what, this guy again. Are you guys writing another book?"

Ask them to go to the Instrument Cluster and key-specific settings in SDS. They can enable it for your key, and any other key for other drivers that may want it. It will not add any additional menu to your IC - it will just work if you follow the instructions in the manual.

Dema, looks like you got yourself a go-kart for the canyons. Is it a 35?
Montego Blue FTW! Congrats.

Heehee, have fun with the go-kart!
BMW owners seem pretty tolerant with MB owners. Deep down they respect MBs, esp AMG versions. But MB owners don't seem quite as equally tolerant with Bimmer owners.
1Addicts is a busy and great forum.
(p.s., switch out the RFTs for an even better ride and just carry a Conti kit or something in the trunk.)

I've now been told by two dealer service departments, MB of Palm Springs and Walter's MB in Riverside, that this feature was removed after the 2007 year model...a stupid move, IMHO.

It would be helpful if you can get some note from a dealer who enabled the feature. We could show it our less techy dealers and perhaps get the problem solved too.

Today I called Tele-Aid, asked about this feature, and was told that it was an option that had to be selected when the car was ordered, and that their records showed that my car was not so equipped. I asked if the option could be added after purchase, and was told no.
Next, I looked for this "option" on mbusa and in the E350 brochure, but found no mention of it, nor is it shown as being part of one of the option packages.
I can't seem to get a consistent answer from the dealers or from M-B. If anyone has a 2009 E350 that has been able to get the "mirror tilt down on reverse" setting to work, please let me know.

This is not any hardware option; this is software option which a dealer should be able to activate. If you read manual and try to follow steps to activate the feature, then you can notice that tilt down position can be stored in memory. It means that all functionality in place, only one bit has to tell software - use it.
You can see that Tele-Aid is completely useless option though.

It is my understanding that version coding of the left front door module is required to enable “Park Assist." I believe the SDS path is (unless modified) 211 – control units – seats and doors – left front door control module – maintenance work…
EPC left/right current door control modules:
'03 - 2118201585 / 2118702885
'04 - 2118201585 / 2118702885
'05 - 2118201585 / 2118702885
'06 - 2118702785 / 2118702885 – Easy entry/exit seat feature removed, park assist still present
'07 - 2118702785 / 2118702885 – Park Assist removed
'08 - 2118702785 / 2118702885
'09 - 2118702785 / 2118702885
Many '07 owners had their vehicles successfully version coded for Park Assist - EPC control modules recommended current for replacement if need be have not changed '06 through '09, '06 vehicles have the feature therefore, all should be able to be version coded to allow this feature.
Request to speak with the shop foreman.

Thanks Konigstiger, another informative post!
fwiw, Penske Motor Cars in West Covina said they could activate park assist on my MY09 E350.
Bobby T: My own experience is that MBUSA doesn't know everything.

When I picked up my 04 E, the S/A at Beverly Hills said the 08's had the auto-tilt away steering wheel feature removed. Can anyone confirm this?

I originally misread your question. My friends 2008 has the easy exit feature, but I am not sure if it moves the steering column or not. I know it does the seat.
